Helping your horse stay sound is a major focus of our practice.
Our team can carry out most lameness work-ups on your farm, whether for your show horse or pasture pony. A lameness evaluation includes a thorough examination of your entire horse as well as a thorough evaluation of your horse in motion, at slow and faster speeds on different surfaces. Palpation and flexion tests help to assess which limb (s)may be involved.
Our portable diagnostic imaging equipment takes high quality, digital images on farm, giving instant results to proceed with a treatment plan. Our digital x-ray units take high quality images of bones and joints, including neck, back and structures of the head. Our digital ultrasound provides detailed soft tissue images of tendons and ligaments, along with joints, muscles, and bony structures.
Some require diagnostic nerve blocks to localise the site of pain, combined with diagnostic imaging (x-ray or ultrasonography) to determine the structures involved and diagnose the cause of the lameness.
Once the cause of lameness has been established, a therapeutic plan, can be made. Treatment and management can range from rest and controlled exercise, to medication, corrective farriery or surgery.
